Olivia Maisel BMUS, MA, MT-BC, MTA, NMT
I’m Olivia Maisel, a dedicated and compassionate music therapist who firmly believes in the transformative power of music to heal and connect. My mission is to create a safe and supportive environment where my clients can freely express themselves through music.
Music has been a sanctuary for me since childhood, and it continues to play a vital role in my life as a performer, singer, and, of course, as a music therapist. I hold a Master’s degree in Music Therapy from New York University (NYU) and a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Vocal Performance from Schulich School of Music, McGill University. My expertise has been further enriched through training at Nordoff-Robbins and in the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music (GIM). I am a certified Music Therapist in both Canada and the USA (MTA & MT-BC) as well as a Neurologic Music Therapist (NMT). You can view my credentials under licenses and certification, as well as my clinical experience here.
Fluent in both French and English, I offer my services to a diverse range of clients. I’ve had the privilege of working with individuals of all ages and abilities. In recent years, I’ve especially specialized in working with those who have autism, neuro-disabilities, and learning disabilities. My approach addresses various needs, including self-esteem, emotional regulation, anxiety, and interpersonal skills. It is grounded in a psychodynamic, humanistic, and person-centered framework, emphasizing the individuality of each client and tailoring the therapy process to their unique needs.
I am committed to ethical and effective therapy, adhering to the guidelines set by the Canadian Association of Music Therapists (CAMT). Inclusivity is central to my practice, and I am continuously working to best serve individuals from diverse backgrounds and identities, including the LGBTQIA+ community. I also wish to offer my reverence to the Kanienʼkehá:ka (Mohawk) people, and to the land on which I live and work. I believe everyone deserves a space where they feel safe, respected, and empowered to be themselves. This is at the heart of my practice as a therapist.
My deep personal connection to music and extensive clinical training offer a therapy experience that is both musically rich and evidence-based. I look forward to meeting you!
